There is something about water that captivates my heart like nothing else. A quiet invitation─to a sacred pause. A gentle breeze seems to whisper, “rest and stay awhile.” An invitation─I dare not refuse. It beckons me to linger ever so long, and give in to sweet surrender.
A sacred place of soul embrace.
In this place, I settle into the safety of “letting go,” and simply fill my lungs with air. I breathe in deeply and enjoy the view─a canopy of bright blue skies is displayed before my eyes. All my senses are held captive by the sights and sounds.
My heart begins to beat at a rhythm of rest. Breathing begins to be slower and deeper. My soul soaks up the warmth of the sun and gentle breeze that blows ever so softly across my face. It’s here I lean into His grace embrace.
At home in wide open spaces of grace.
In this moment and time there is no room for the heavy and hard, no fast or frayed. Only rest.

The gentle nudge of the water beats against my boat─daring me to touch and see─refreshment awaits me. I dip my feet into the cool waters and then fill each hand with water. Filling one hand after the other, with cold refreshing water, and letting it run between my fingers, and back into the lake from where it came. My skin drinks in the nourishment the cold so graciously offers.
I am refreshed.

In this tranquil place, I’m soon not alone. For two young eagles flew ever so gracefully across the open sky, and landed in a tree that stood before me. One of the majestic creatures perched upon the highest spot this tree had to offer. Almost as if he had been there before. The other one perched a few branches down the tree from the first one.
I watched them and wondered at their beauty and strength. These stunning birds who naturally carry a quiet strength. They carried themselves with a royal confidence and assurance of worth. Perched high above the earth.

Shortly thereafter, I heard a little bird singing, and looked up to see that a little black bird had landed on the tree. Little bird was singing and singing. A beautiful melody.
I was impressed with the little bird. I don’t know if it’s his ability to be who he is─a little bird. Or, maybe, it’s because he had the tenacity to invite himself to the party. Either way I loved the little bird‘s simplicity.
He wasn’t intimidated by the mightier eagles who sat ever so quietly and carried themselves with dignity and strength. I love the little bird’s ability to be a little bird and not be intimidated by the mightier eagles whose tree he shared. Little bird wasn’t concerned about impressing anyone. He simply came to sing. And. Sing he did.
By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches. Psalm 104:12
I’m inspired by little bird and the song he sings. He’s stirred questions inside of me. I wonder about the song of my heart? What is my life singing and where will I soar?
“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song” Maya Angelou.

Thank you Tami for that beautiful picture. I too wonder what is my song and am I brave enough to sing it despite the bigger and better people who fill my world. All blessings as you continue your journey and sing your beautiful song of love for God and His people and His creatures.
